Resin bound driveways in Worthing
Smooth, gravel look finish with no loose stones. Permeable when laid on the right base.
What is it?
Resin bound driveways mix natural aggregate with a clear resin and trowel it smooth. You get the look of gravel without stones scattering across the pavement, and water drains straight through.
Why people choose it
- No loose stones, weeds struggle to get a hold
- Permeable, so it normally meets front garden drainage rules
- Lots of aggregate colours and blends
- Very little maintenance, an occasional brush and wash
Things to watch
- Quality depends heavily on the installer and the weather on the day
- Needs a sound, permeable base, laying over cracked concrete causes problems
- UV stable resin costs more but avoids yellowing
- Make sure you are quoted for resin bound, not resin bonded (stones glued on top, which is not permeable)
Rough cost
| Indicative price | £70 to £110 per m² supplied and laid |
|---|---|
| Typical time on site | 2 to 4 days once booked |
Digging out an old surface, drainage, dropped kerbs and difficult access all add to the price. Use the cost guide for a rough figure, then get a firm price from a site visit.
Questions
How long does a resin driveway last?
Laid properly on a good base, most installers expect 15 to 25 years. Cheap resin or a poor base is the usual cause of early cracking.
Can resin be laid over my old driveway?
Sometimes. Sound tarmac or concrete with no cracking or movement can be overlaid, but many older Worthing driveways need breaking out first. The installer will check this at the site visit.
Is resin bound allowed in a front garden without planning permission?
Usually yes, because a resin bound surface on a permeable base lets water drain through. See our driveway rules guide for the details.
